With a fine colonial heritage, Andean scenery and unspoiled Amazon rainforest a trip to Ecuador has all the ingredients to give you a flavour of South America, but a week in the Galapagos Islands will bring you literally face to face with some of the planet’s most remarkable wildlife.
Highlights: Quito – Amazon Rainforest – Galapagos Islands
For further information about the range of Galapagos cruises and the choice of hotels and jungle lodges, please contact us. We can adapt this itinerary to include the Devil’s Nose, Ingapirca and Cuenca or extend the itinerary to include a relaxing stay at a hacienda, time to explore the cloudforest or simply to spend a few days at a hotel in the Galapagos after your cruise.
Arrival transfer from Quito airport to your hotel. The colonial heart of the city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has undergone considerable restoration over the last 20 years.
Your city tour will take in the key highlights of the city, including the Plaza de la Independencia and the Basilica with its impressive gargoyles.
Free day. Please let us know if you would like us to book an excursion to the Equator monument and/or on the cable car (Teleferico) for spectacular views of the city. Other possibilities include a visit to the pre-Inca site of the Quitus people.
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight into the Oriente. There are various gateways into the Amazon jungle (such as Coca and Lago Agrio) depending on which jungle lodge you are staying at.
Excursions in the jungle. These will usually be a combination of river and land excursions, bird-watching tours, alligator-spotting and keeping your eyes peeled for monkeys.
Return to Quito and overnight in your hotel.
We book a range of Galapagos cruises from luxury vessels with excellent facilities and a good choice of cabins and decks catering for up to 100 passengers to smaller yachts, catamarans and boats from just 8 cabins (16 passengers) to 25 (50 passengers). We can also arrange yacht charters if you wish to book your own boat for a special event or family holiday.
Please call us to discuss your preferences but early booking is essential.
Overnight in Quito on your return from the Galapagos. If you wish to extend the itinerary to go out to Otovalo market or spend a few days at an estancia hideaway at the end of your stay, please let us know.
Depart South America.

Ecuador has a wide range of types & styles of hotels, at a variety of price-points to suit all budgets. Similarly, we offer a range of Galapagos cruises from small boats with perhaps 8 to 20 cabins to luxurious ships with up to 50 cabin, offering a choice of cabin types (according to deck, size of cabin and facilities such as panoramic windows rather than a porthole). Larger boats are more spacious and tend to be more stable in the water. They are also faster and therefore offer some of the most extensive itineraries around the Galapagos Archipelago.
Please chat to one of our Travel Consultants to get informed advice as to which hotels and Galapagos cruise ships they would suggest for your tailor-made Ecuador and Galapagos holiday.
The best time of the year for visiting the Galapagos Islands is December to March, when the weather is warmest and the sea is calmest. September-October is best avoided.
The tours, excursions & activities mentioned in the above sample Ecuador and Galapagos are just a selection of what is available in each location. The programme can be adjusted to fit your particular requirements for this holiday – within the parameters of days of operation and any adjustments made by the Galapagos National Park authorities; please liaise with your Travel Consultant to confirm what other activities are available and what you would like to include in your tailor-made Ecuador and Galapagos holiday.
If you like the broad sweep of the above sample itinerary but have fewer days to spend on your Ecuador and Galapagos holiday, or wish to extend it in any way, please ask your Travel Consultant for ideas on how to shorten or lengthen the holiday, or how to reorganise the itinerary.
We would be delighted to email you a no-obligation, fully-detailed itinerary & quote, containing images of the hotels, jungle lodges and Galapagos cruise ships we suggest for your holiday plus details of any included tours & excursions. The quote will clearly state what is, and what is not included in the quoted price. If you thereafter wish to make any changes to the initial holiday – be it an alternative hotel, different activities, a different duration in any location etc. – that’s not a problem and we will continue to work with you to adjust the programme until it exactly matches what you’re looking for from this holiday of a lifetime.
