Arrival transfer from the airport to your hotel. Dinner with either Uruguayan tango or a Rio de la Plata show.
City tour of some of the city's key attractions including Independence Square, the Old City and the Mercado del Puerto where lunch is included. Afternoon excursion to the La Chacra Cheese Farm.
Morning tour to one of the local vineyards such as Juanico or Bouzo to learn about Uruguayan wine. Free afternoon.
Piriapolis and Punta del Este
The attractive coastline East of Montevideo is dotted with bays, beaches and promontories offering lovely views. We'll stop at Piriapolis, which became Uruyguay's first beach resort in the 1890s before continuing via the Casapueblo museum and workshop in Punta Ballena created by Carlos Paez Vilaro to arrive at Punta del Este.
Transfer via the forest of Ombues to La Pedrera, an attractive coastal village with sandy beaches and rocky capes.
Wildlife excursion to Cabo Polonio where there are large colonies of sea lions and penguins. Occasionally whales can be seen here too.
Santa Teresa National Park
The impressive fortress here was started by the Portuguese in 1762 and is the site of many battles between colonial powers (British, Spanish and Portuguese) as well as the 'Orientales' seeking independence for Uruguay. The fort is surrounded by 3000 hectares of forest. Nearby, at La Coronilla, is the Karumbe marine turtle protection centre which is supported by the Latin America Travel Association Foundation.
San Pedro de Timote
Travel via Cerro Colorado to San Pedro de Timote, one of Uruguay's historic haciendas, set in 5750 acres. The estancia offers a range of activities and excursions.
Jose Ignacio has a peak season of just 15 days per annum from 25th December to the start of January. The rest of the year it is quiet and peaceful, an ideal location to rest at the end of your stay.
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight home. If you are crossing the River Plate to Argentina we will book your transfer via Colonia. Please contact us for other extensions.
