This two-week tailor-made itinerary provides a superb introduction to Peru and is ideal for the first-time traveller to Latin America.
Highlights: Lima – Amazon Rainforest – Cuzco – Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu – Lake Titicaca
We can adapt it to include the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu or to travel from Lake Titicaca into Bolivia to fly home from La Paz. Other visitors may want to include Arequipa and the Colca Canyon. If you have more time, why not extend it with a week in the Galapagos Islands?
Fly to Lima.
You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel. Lima is our gateway to the marvels of Peru and you won't have much time to explore the city. Larcomar in the Miraflores district has some great restaurants, shops and cafes with a view over the ocean which, together with nearby Parque del Amor, is very popular with Limenos at dusk.
Fly to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to your jungle lodge, your base from which to explore the surrounding rainforest.
Excursions and activities in the jungle, such as alligator spotting by flashlight, walking tours through primary and secondary rainforest, birdwatching.
Excursions in the rainforest.
Fly to Cuzco, the capital of the Inca empire.
On arrival at Cuzco airport you will be met and driven to your hotel. At 3310m you need a free afternoon to acclimatise to altitude.
Tour of Cuzco.
This half-day tour takes in some of the key sites and places of most interest in and around Cuzco, including the cathedral, the Plaza de Armas and Sacsayhuaman, the impressive Inca fortress overlooking the city.
Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Your tour of the Sacred Valley includes excursions to villages and local markets, and sites of particular interest such as Ollantaytambo.
Excursions in the Sacred Valley.
Additional excursions in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
The citadel of Machu Picchu is Latin America's foremost site, rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. We will book the Sanctuary Lodge for those wanting to stay next to the site or a hotel in the local village as you prefer.
Afternoon return to Cuzco.
The morning is free to return to Machu Picchu if you wish or to explore the markets of the local village, Aguas Calientes. Afternoon train back to the Sacred Valley and transfer to your hotel in Cuzco.
Travel to Lake Titicaca.
The journey from Cuzco to Puno (either by road or by train) offers great chances to see llamas and alpacas against a backdrop of fantastic Andean scenery.
Excursions on Lake Titicaca.
A full day excursion on Lake Titicaca to the floating Uros Islands and to either Taquile or Amantani island.
Fly to Lima.
Departure transfer to Juliaca airport in time for your flight to Lima. You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel in Lima for your last night.
