This two-week itinerary combines Tierra del Fuego and the ice fields of Patagonia with Buenos Aires and the Iguazu Falls. Please contact us to discuss extensions to Salta and the Andes, the Ibera marshlands, Bariloche and the Lake District, the wildlife of the Valdes Peninsula or a stay at a vineyard in Mendoza.
Highlights: Buenos Aires – Tierra del Fuego – Perito Moreno – Iguazu Falls
You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel. The majority of Argentines are of European descent, mainly Italians. Indeed there's a saying that an Argentinian is an Italian who speaks Spanish, thinks like the French but would secretly like to be British. European influences are prominent in the buildings and squares of the city.
Our city tour takes in some of the key places in Buenos Aires, including the Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo and La Boca before continuing to the Puerto Madero docklands which have undergone complete transformation in the last 15 years into a thriving area of bars and restaurants. The tour ends at the elegant district of Recoleta.
In the evening a tango show is included, with dinner.
Free day to explore Buenos Aires in your own time. If you would like us to book particular arrangements, such as tango classes, a football tour, a tour of notable bars and restaurants, cycle rides, or our new Pope Francis tour, please let us know. Another quirky option is to visit the underground tunnels of Buenos Aires.
Fly to Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego. Afternoon city tour of this southernmost city in the world set between the Beagle Channel and the Martial Mountain chain. The tour includes the interesting End of the World Museum with artefacts and objects from the indigenous Yamanas together with information and exhibits about the first missionaries and settlers.
Tierra del Fuego National Park and the Beagle Channel
Tour of Tierra del Fuego National Park in the morning taking in Laguna Verde and Lapataia Bay. In the afternoon travel by Catamaran around the Bay of Ushuaia and into the Beagle Channel, taking in Bird Island, with its cormorants, ducks and albatrosses and
Sea Lion Island. The trip goes as far as Les Eclaireurs lighthouse before returning to the city.
Departure transfer to Ushuaia airport in time for your flight to El Calafate, where you will be met and driven to your hotel. If there is time, we recommend a visit to the Glaciarum ice museum with its Glaciobar where the bar, tables, seating and walls are all made of ice.
Upsala and Estancia Christina
Depart by road to Punta Banderas to board a boat to sailing amongst icebergs and stunning scenery towards the western front of the Upsala glacier. A tour of the Costumbrista museum is included at the estancia.
After lunch ascend in 4 x 4 vehicles through mountainous roads for impressive view of the eastern front of Upsala Glacier together with the Guillermo
Lagoon and Southern Patagonian ice fields.
This important glacier is 50 miles from El Calafate at the western end of Lago Argentino. Following the paths you will get close up views of the glacier, an impressive river of ice some 18 miles long and about 2½ miles wide.
In the afternoon you'll have the chance to go ice-trekking on the glacier with crampons.
Fly to Buenos Aires and overnight here.
You will be met on arrival at the airport and driven to your hotel. Afternoon tour to the Argentine side of the falls, taking the train at the Visitors Centre as far Devil's Throat station and walking for 1km.
Full day tour to the Brazilian side of the falls including the Itaipu Dam.
Free day. You may want to follow the well-organised trails, taking the train from the Visitors Centre to Falls Station and following the upper or lower circuit paths or perhaps arrange an adventure in a zodiac, getting close to the parts of the falls known as San Martin, the Three Muskateers and the Devils's Throat.
